TBR Mayhem

I have a few questions for my readers as well as a contest.

How do you decide what book you want to read next?

Do you read more than one book at a time or is that just crazy?

Who are your favorite authors that you would reccommend to others?

What do you like to read in a review? Do you like it to be really in depth or straight to the point?

What do you think of short and sweet reviews?

I have no idea what I will be giving away, that will be decided later. Know that it will be a book and probably whatever else I decide to throw in. Make some suggestions of what you'd like to win in this contest. Look for more chances to win in the coming weeks when I will be posting some reviews that I am working on.

Gonna try to answer your questions here :P

How do you decide what book you want to read next? - If I've gotten a book for review, that book's definitely priority. Same thing with library books, I have to finish them within a few weeks. So I tend to read those books first, my own books have to wait a little if it isn't a book that seems great or one that I've been wanting to read for a long time.!

Do you read more than one book at a time or is that just crazy? - That happens... If I get "stuck" in a book I might pick up a "lighter" book instead.

Who are your favorite authors that you would recommend to others? - I love Meg Cabot and Sophie Kinsella's books. Richelle Mead, Tina Ferraro and Simone Elkeles are other favorites.

What do you like to read in a review? Do you like it to be really in depth or straight to the point? - Depends. Too long reviews isn't good when I'm in a hurry ;)

What do you think of short and sweet reviews? Like them, short and straight to the point reviews are great!

Hope I was to any help!

How do you decide what book you want to read next? --I have this weird system where I keep a list of my ARCs, books due back to the library, and award lists I'm reading from. I generally rotate between these three lists, dipping into my TBR pile or "can't wait" purchases when something new comes out that I can't wait for. :)

Do you read more than one book at a time or is that just crazy? --I am a BIG TIME reader of many books at once. I generally read anywhere from three to seven at once (I know...crazy), until one grabs me and I can't put it down.

Who are your favorite authors that you would reccommend to others? Right now I'm recommending Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett, but my favorite authors include: Meg Cabot, Harriet Evans,...others I can't recall right this second.

What do you like to read in a review? Do you like it to be really in depth or straight to the point? --This is hard to answer. It really depends on the novel. Although, it also depends on the reviewer. There are some people that write really short reviews, and I appreciate that. However, there are some that write long, detailed reviews, and I've come to appreciate all the details. I guess I don't really know. Whatever fits the writer seems best!

What do you think of short and sweet reviews? --In some cases, they are perfect for the book, or selection of books.

Interesting questions. Thanks for posing them! They made me think about my own reviews and how I write. I do tend to be long winded (can you believe that as you read my comment?!?), but I am trying to be more concise! :)

Yes I read reviews to see which books I want to purchase. I like the review to tell me if the storyline is plausible, if the characers are interesting, and what is the setting.
I am an avid reader and read most genres. I usually have 2-3 books started at once-a mystery, a thriller, a western, and a romance one. Then I pick up the one I am in the mood to read.
I like lot of authors-too many to name.

I decide what to read next on a whim. Based mostly on how I felt about the last book. If I just finished something long, I look for short. If I just read historical fiction, next up will probably be humor. Something really deep or sad? Next up, light and fun. The only other thing that could dictate my next choice would be if I am participating in an upcoming group read on Goodreads. I try to do about 4 or 5 of those a year.

I used to read multiple books at once. Now I don't. Unless maybe I'm reading something non-fiction to research something, then I could have a fiction read going on at the same time to suit my mood of the moment.

Well, I tend to have more favorite books than favorite authors. I don't often read a whole bunch of one person's work. I like to try a little of everything. But the authors of my favorite books are Faulkner and Harper Lee. I have always enjoyed Bill Bryson.

I really like the way you laid out your review in the post just after this one. Catches the eye. Easy to pick out the points. Not too long but good information. And the links to the related sites.

I'm a rambler, but in a review I appreciate shorter ones. Because I don't want plot spoilers or too much info. Give me a quick overview and then give me details on your opinion - why it moved you, irritated you, etc. That's most valuable to me as a reader.
